Sports Scholarship Information
Duane Barrows Scholarship – Established in memory of Duane Barrows, a coach at Columbus High School, who died in an auto accident in 1979. Coach Barrows led the Columbus High School swimming team to six state swimming championships.
Criteria: Graduating seniors from the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. who have participated in interscholastic sports. Academic performance, financial need and character will be considered.
Lucien J. & Maryann J. Chadwick and Sam & Edith Shanks Memorial Scholarship – Established by Judy and Michael Chadwick in memory of their parents.
Criteria: Graduating seniors from a Bartholomew County public high school who have been outstanding varsity athletes with outstanding academic records.
Andy Critzer Memorial Scholarship – Established in memory of Andy Critzer, a member of the Columbus North High School Golf Team, who died in an automobile accident in 1985.
Criteria: Graduating seniors from a Bartholomew County high school who participated in their high school golf program. Criteria to be used in evaluating applicant shall include, but not be limited to, academic performance, extracurricular activities, financial need, character, and sportsmanship.
Columbus Crush Scholarship - Established by a group of Bartholomew County parents whose children wanted to play competitive travel baseball in 2000 and supported by the Bartholomew County Parks and Recreation Board of Directors.
Criteria: Male resident of Bartholomew County who is a graduating high school senior athlete in good standing at a public or private high school or home school who plans to attend an accredited post-secondary educational institution in pursuit of a technical certificate, associate's degree, or bachelor's degree. Applicant must have played a sport during his senior year of high school. Preference will be given to applicants with financial need.
Phil Jackson Memorial Fast-Pitch Softball Scholarship – Established in memory of Phil Jackson, who died in 2006, by his family. Phil coached high school and fast-pitch softball in Columbus for more than a decade.
Criteria: Graduating senior who is a Bartholomew County resident and played softball four years in high school. Applicant must have at least a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale or a 5.0 GPA on a 12.0 scale. Financial need will be considered.
The Martha Kalb "You GO Girl" Scholarship - Established by friends and family to celebrate the life of Martha Kalb, a dedicated Northside Middle School teacher, Columbus North High School girl’s basketball coach, and avid sports fan.
Criteria: Graduating seniors from the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. who play varsity girl’s basketball and plan to pursue post-secondary education at a vocational/technical school, junior college, college, or university. Applicant must be in good standing academically. Criteria to be used in evaluating applicant shall include, but not be limited to: academic performance, extracurricular activities, financial need, and sportsmanship. Recipients may re-apply annually as long as they remain in good standing at their school.
John McLachlan Soccer Scholarship – Established by members of the soccer community to honor John McLachlan and the many years of work that he has given to the soccer program in Columbus.
Criteria: Bartholomew County high school student who participated on his/her varsity soccer team as a senior (as a player or a manager). Applicant must have lettered at least twice during his/her high school soccer career. Student must plan to attend an accredited post-secondary educational institution in pursuit of a technical certificate, associate's degree, or bachelor's degree and must have at least a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale or a 5.0 on a 12.0 scale.
John R. Skobel III Memorial Scholarship – Established in memory of John R. Skobel III, a Columbus North High School student who died in an automobile accident in 1988.
Criteria: Four-year scholarship for graduating seniors from the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. who have participated in their school's football program and who plan to pursue post-secondary education as a full-time student at a vocational/technical school, junior college, college, or university.
Sgt. Jonathon Michael Hunter Legacy Scholarship Fund – Established in 2017 to honor the memory and celebrate the life of Sgt. Jonathon Michael Hunter of the United States Army. Jonathon was a natural leader with a passion for giving back. He gave his life in service of others. Through this scholarship Jonathon’s family, friends and supporters preserve his memory by recognizing students who exhibit his leadership, strength of character and selflessness.
Criteria: Graduating high school senior from BCSC who plans to pursue a 2 or 4 year degree at an accredited post-secondary institution. Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, be active in athletics and/or music, be able to demonstrate academic excellence, leadership skills, and service to the community. Financial need will be considered. Preference will be given to Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) students. Financial need will be considered.
Abbott Forrester Garn Scholarship – Established in memory of Columbus East High School sophomore Abbott Forrester Garn.
Criteria: Graduating senior from Columbus East High School planning to attend a college/university in the United States. Applicant should have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and be a multi-sport athlete (minimum of 2). Applicant should be civic-minded and mission-oriented, putting others above self.
