CEHS Gymnastics Coach Kirshman retires after 46 years!

Article re-printed from The Republic- Columbus, IN newspaper

Columbus East is looking for a new gymnastics coach for the first time in nearly a half-century.

Nancy Kirshman, who became the Olympians first gymnastics coach when the school opened in 1973, has held the position for 46 years. Last week, she announced her retirement at the team’s postseason banquet.

Kirshman led East to 15 sectional championships and the state title in the 1989-90 season. This year, the Olympians finished eighth at the state finals.

Kirshman was the state’s longest tenured gymnastics coach and is believed by the IHSAA to have the second-longest coaching tenure in state history in any sport. Larry “Bud” Wright is entering his 54th year of coaching football at Sheridan and his 55th year overall.

Thank you Coach Kirshman- You are truly a definition of Olympian spirit!
