East diver wins, sets record

BLOOMINGTON — Freshman Gabbie Meier broke Columbus East’s 11-dive school record with 368.25 points Saturday to win the Bloomington North Diving Invitational.

Meier was in fourth place among the 17 girls divers after five dives and second after eight dives before moving into the top spot.

“Despite the conditions of the pool (extremely cold, to the point it started to become tough to stop shivering enough to perform a dive), everyone did a great job,” East diving coach Nancy Snyder said. “With this being Gabbie’s first year in diving and at an 11-dive meet as a freshman, she had a great meet. While this is her first year in diving, she brings a lot of experience from her gymnastic background.”
