- OLYMPIANS: 99.55 3rd Place
Olympian gymnasts take 3rd in tri-meet
By James Pence -
Saturday’s gymnastics tri-meet was one that Columbus East hopes to put in the past very quickly.
Despite being short-handed for the meet with Roncalli and Bloomington North, the Olympians had some critical errors that ended up placing them in third place with a 99.55. The Cougars took first with a 107.45, and Royals were runner-up with a 102.8.
East has been missing two of its top competitors in Taylen Lane and Reagan Mount and added Winter Shaver to the list due to contact tracing.
“We need people to step up. We have people that are capable of doing things and still falling on elementary elements,” East coach Nancy Kirshman said. “We had too many falls on the bars and on the beam. We just need people to step up and have to do their job, and they didn’t do that today. I thought we could have been competitive with Roncalli, but it is what it is. We have people that are struggling that are good competitors. They have to make the corrections because were making the same mistakes over and over.”
Elise LaSell finished second in the all-around competition for the Olympians with a score of 34.3, which was just shy Roncalli’s Gabby Conjecko’s score of 34.45. LaSell was third overall on the vault (8.85), and had the highest team score on the bars (8.2), beam (8.35) and floor (8.9).
East’s Cami Warren placed fourth overall on the vault (8.75). She also tied LaSell for the highest team score on the floor with 8.9.
Conjecko was first on the bars (8.75). Bloomington North won the other three events with Hope Taylor on the vault (9.5), Jackie Bickford on the beam (9.3) and Jessica Floyd on the floor (9.45).
