Girls Varsity Swim & Dive
The Olympians are looking for a big year while returning a conference champion breaststroker and three-fourths of their school-record setting 200 medley relay team.
“The girls are champing at the bit,” East coach Jill Arnholt said. “They’re doing a great job of coming in and working hard. They’re ready to go.”
Senior Marin Wieneke won the Hoosier Hills Conference in the 100 breaststroke and finished second in the 50 freestyle. Juniors Karissa Miller and Ellie Proffitt joined Wieneke on the record-setting 200 medley relay team.
“(Proffitt) and Karissa Miller are both pretty versatile,” Arnholt said. “They can swim just about anything.”
That also is the case with sophomore Josie Havenaar. Other top returning swimmers are junior Kerigan Greathouse in the freestyle events, senior Caroline Andress in freestyle and butterfly and junior Halle Herbert in the backstroke and freestyle.
Freshman Grace Hale leads a group of newcomers.
Senior Cloie McDonald set a school record and was a regional diving qualifier last season. She is joined by freshman diver Gabbie Meier.
The Olympians finished third in the HHC and sixth in the North Sectional last season.
“I think we’re expecting an exciting season,” Arnholt said. “They girls have been very positive through all this COVID stuff. I think we’re going to have a pretty good, solid season.”
