Article from the The Republic -  Columbus, IN / Bartholomew County Newspaper Few Columbus East-Columbus North volleyball matches in the rivalry’s history have had as much drama as Thursday night, but in the fifth set, the Olympians made sure there wasn’t any more drama. East came through in a big way in the fifth set to rally for a 25-12, 26-28, 23-25, 25-23, 15-5 victory in a back-and-forth match on the Bull Dogs’ senior night. “We got together, and we said that we had to do it as a team, and we had a lot of energy,” said junior Rilee Jessee, who led the Olympians with 16 kills. “The last set we came out, and we said that we had to come out and be ready to fight.” North (8-14) led 3-1 early in the fifth set when East (8-14) gained a sideout. Senior Keeleigh Kikendall then served nine consecutive points to give the Olympians an 11-3 lead. Story continues below gallery 18 of 18     ...

Article Written by Ted Schultz, The Republic Newspaper / Photo's courtesy The Republic Newspaper's Mike Wolanin If the Columbus East girls soccer team had any doubts it could play with a top-10 team in the state, those went by the wayside in the first 30 seconds of Wednesday night’s game against Columbus North. Maya Federle scored on a rebound shot just 25 seconds into the game, and the Olympians went on to claim a 4-3 upset of the Class 3A No. 9 Bull Dogs. “I think that energy really helped,” Federle said. “I think after that, we were all pumped and ready to go. We knew that we could do it.” East’s Sarah Park took the opening kickoff and drove in and put a shot off the left post. Her rebound shot was blocked by North goalkeeper Kaylyn Bates, but the ball squirted to the right side of the goal, where Federle was there for the tap-in.
